Feral Dogs Unite!
The curbs are littered with oversized, multicolored cotton balls. Everywhere I look I see furry clumps strewn about the streets. O wait, they move and they´re surprisingly healthy. This has to be the feral dog capital of the world. It´s not like those Nicole Ritchie skinny Mexican dogs, they are regular dogs, just a bit dirty. They look like your average household pet after taking them to the park after a heavy rain. A little mud caked but on the whole, very happy and healthy dog. I never really imagined Santiago as being the home of the vagrant dog. I imagined it to be much more European than it has been. I guess that´s just a first impression though, Santiago could turn out to be much more than dirty dogs and graffiti. I think it has to be, because even though those are the first two things I´ve noticed I feel surprisingly safe (as opposed to London, where it looks nice but I never felt like there wasn´t a possibility of a mugging). The architecture is stereotypically spanish, ornate terraces, wide boulevards, and very brightly colored. I haven´t explored much but I´m sure I´ll get a better feel as the week goes on.
